Happy Random Almost Halloween

It is Friday.  Thank gawd.

As much as I love him, if the dog wakes me up tomorrow morning at 5:30 a.m. barking because our absolutely ANAL paper delivery person walks up to each and every front porch and lovingly places each and every copy of the Podunk Suppository in the exact middle of each and every front porch mat, I will strangle him.  Or the paper delivery person.  Whatever happened to just throwing vaguely in the direction of our house as you drive/ride your bicycle past?

I had lots of comments about the Trick-or-Treating traditions here in Podunk, and I’m glad to report that yes, they will allow the kids to Trick-or-Treat on Halloween.  It’ll still be between 3 and 5 p.m. in the afternoon, but it will be on Halloween.  The Young One, who hasn’t gone out the last two years, will go this year, but not for candy – he will be collecting donations for Unicef.  I am so proud of this kid I can barely express it, but it means I have to go out and find him a costume, like, NOW.

Tuesday Jolly and Little Guy will be here!  WOO-HOO!  I dragged poor Beloved into Babies R Us last week, and we sort of got carried away…

What??  They’re going to be here for a whole week; we wouldn’t want the poor kid to get bored.  No, I don’t care that he’s only 2 1/2 months old – my grandson WILL NOT BE BORED.

Yesterday evening while I was waiting for Beloved to come home from the office (oh, we just love those clients on the west coast who schedule conference calls at 3 p.m. their time) and the oven to warm up for the meatloaf, I grabbed my camera and Scooter and I took a stroll around the block.  I got an interesting shot or two of the last of the fall foliage on our street, but more importantly, I got the dog to be still for more than a fraction of a second.

I was just tickled; he usually tries to lick the camera when I take his picture.  I’m afraid I’m rather stuck on the little critter, but he really is a handsome animal (and yes, those are Grateful Dead dancing bears on his collar).

    Hey I WANT the paper on the stoop and not just anywhere on the lawn. We just need to yell at the dog in the morning, but are just always too tired.

    Such fabulous pictures!
    I have dog that likes to wake at 5:30 am, but only because he is starved. Lucky for me, I have convinced the starved dog that only the “man” can feed him in the morning.
    I love the unicef idea too…wish we were able to get the word out for more kids to do this.

    Awww. Scooter looks a lot like the dog I had when I was a kid. She died 30 years ago and I still miss her. She was the best!

    You know all those 7 a.m. conference calls you east coast people schedule? Yeah, that’s 4 a.m. here and I’m real tired of my husband waking up the whole house to participate in them.

    I’m sooooo glad the kids will be able to enjoy Halloween on… Halloween, even if it’s daylight. Sccooter is indeed a handsome dog; maybe you could introduce him to the paper boy, let him smell the kid up so that he wouldn’t bark so early. Then again, the paperboy could be a seriel killer in the making. Just saying.

    And I don’t get the “do they allow trick or treating…” Are there places that don’t allow? Over here it’s still the “if you don’t want tirck or treaters turn your porch light off and don’t put out a pumpkin.”

    Mayzie has been waking me every morning at 5am also…..licking her paws. I call it the licking alarm. This morning it went off at 4:30. Grrrr.

    My grandchildren keep me extremely broke. They all know how to work me too, even the little guy. In fact I got a text on my phone two days ago that said “Grammy, I’d love it very much is I had a Gentle Giraffe to help me sleep better at night”. That kid is SMART! He’s only 8 weeks old and already texting. :)

    First of all, I’m thankful that the week is over too…after driving in snow for almost 2 hours this evening…yuck! Second of all, way to go young one!!! That is so flippin cool that he’s doing that. Hope you had good luck in finding something to wear.
    Thirdly, it’s a grandma’s priveledge to go have some fun spoiling her new grand baby. I bet you had fun!!! I am so excited for you and Beloved!
    Lastly, your dog is so darn cute…good pictures.
