Meh.

I do believe I’m suffering from a bad case of bloggy burnout.  It’s not unusual for this time of year, especially for someone who has been blogging for any length of time (read: 2½ years).  I just need a break.

So, I’m going to be taking one.  On Saturday, we head down to Las Vegas for several days – Beloved is going to a conference and I’m going to spend lots of time with Darling Daughter.  We get home very late on Thursday, then turn around and pick Darling Daughter and her fella at the airport Friday evening, Oldest Son and The Young One on Saturday morning, BON (Beloved’s Only Niece) Saturday night, then head down to Hocking Hills for 4 nights on Sunday.  Darling Daughter goes home Friday afternoon, Oldest Son returns Saturday morning, and we’re going to see Emmitt Smith inducted into the Football Hall of Fame Saturday night.

In order to get ready for this, I have a TON of stuff to do here at home and the office.  I’ll probably blog some this week – I have a couple of recipes – but I may not be around to comment so much.  I’ll do my best, but I can’t make any promises.  I don’t intend to blog at all while in Vegas and will not be able to while in Hocking Hills – no internet connection.  But rest assured that I will return the second week of August, armed with photos and stories of our adventures – and maybe even a recipe or two.

That was either a threat or a promise.  Take it how you will.  :P

And have a lovely Monday, y’all.

Well, here it is Tuesday again, and for once I wish it were still Monday. But I’m still putting up the purple button and linking back to Keely, Proprietress Of All Things Random.

~~~~~~
It’s the first day of June, so a new header and color scheme is up at the Sushi Bar.  I’m especially pleased with my header, because it is the first one using a photo I took myself rather than stock photography.  It’s a macro shot of one of the blooms on the sage that is taking over the side of my house in my herb garden; I like it because it’s a flower, but food related.  Well, and it’s pretty.
You’ll also see some other minor changes. I’ve moved the blogrolls to a page of it’s own at the top.  It was simply getting out of hand and consuming my sidebar. There’s also a form on the Contact Me page, and I’ve added a more prominent RSS feed to my sidebar so visitors don’t have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page if they wish to subscribe to my blog.  There’s also a little social bookmarking toolbar at the end of the bottom of each post now, if you should wish to share any of my drivel.
I’m nothing if not a cockeyed optimist.
~~~~~~

I read Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon this past week, as a follow-up to some research I’ve been doing.  The result?  I am absolutely appalled at the Standard American Diet.  And we are no exception – I have always made a conscious effort to stay away from the processed crap at the grocery store, but even we are eating much more poorly than we should.

So, this weekend was a saga of buying a freezer and hunting down a local source of 100% grass-fed, pastured beef – which was much easier than I ever expected.  But rather than bore you with that (I plan to do that sometime next week), let’s just suffice to say that I also made a foray into the land of granola-crunchers local health food store, and this morning I am eating 100% organic yogurt made from whole, un-homogenized milk mixed with some raw honey and flaxseed oil for breakfast.

I’m sure I’ll get used to the flavor.  Gawd, I hope I get used to the flavor…

~~~~~~
As you may have discerned from my title, I am going to participate in NaBloPoMo this month, which basically means I am going to post every single day for the month of June.  It also basically means you’re going to see a lot of photos if you mosey on over here on the weekends.  I did this last year in July, so I have some idea of what I’m getting myself in to for a change.
~~~~~~

And what would a Random Tuesday Thoughts post be without some random cuteness?

Random Cuteness

And that’s all I have for today.  Have a lovely Random Tuesday, y’all.

I have been blogging for two years.  Two years.

You’d think I’d have more readers.

Well, I think I can say that this is one of those cases where quality is far more important than quantity, because I have the best readers in the blogosphere.  If they’re not exactly numerous, well – more people should be so discerning. :P

(Actually, I have a great many readers – approximately 3,000 people visit my blog on a monthly basis, looking mostly for recipes and, more recently, photographs – I just don’t have that many commenters.  But those that do are the most wonderful, loyal people I’ve ever met.)

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t consider myself a “writer” nor do I have aspirations of being the next Dooce (although I will take this moment to express just the tiniest bit of envy of this particular blogger).  I don’t fit into any particular blogging “category” (the name of this blog says it all), and I’m not sure I have this “voice” that many other bloggers talk about.  I’m just a middle-aged woman who is fortunate enough to have an incredible husband, kids I love more than life itself, the cutest grandson in the Western hemisphere, a talent for cooking and a group of warm, witty, intelligent bloggy friends willing to share it all with me.

Who could possibly ask for more?

Well, besides a Nikon D90 with a macro lens and a garden full of crocus bulbs…

For more bloggy Spins, hop on over to Sprite’s Keeper.  And have a lovely weekend y’all.

My dear friend Tricia has committed to NaBloPoMo for the month of August.  That’s National Blog Posting Month and it means she’s going to post every day.  I told her I’d join her to give her a little support.

Beloved may very well kill me.

Like Tricia, I can’t promise something of substance, be it funny or profound or even a recipe, every day, so expect to be looking at a lot of photos taken with the new Nikon D90, especially on the weekend.

Starting today, actually.

Here are some of the photos taken while in Hocking Hills – these are either at our cabin (the fire and the sunset) or on one of our deer hunts (the flowers and insects).

Click on any picture to see an enlargement.  Hope you’re having a lovely weekend, y’all!

TrueNo Random Tuesday Thoughts today – I’m going to tell which statement from my Friday post is false.  And after reading your guesses, I have to say, I’m a bit nonplussed.

Do I look like a knife-wielding, bungee-jumping psycho?

I guess so…y’all know me too well.  Anyhoo, without further ado, here are the answers.

1.  I once attacked my husband with a steak knife.  TRUE.

Well, see now, attacked is a strong word.  I once got so mad at the ex-husband – the only human being in the world capable of making me angry enough to commit murder – that I grabbed what I thought was a handful of wooden spoons and plastic spatulas and hurled them at him across the kitchen. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how I’m feeling about him at the moment), the steak knife hiding in there only grazed the top of his head.

Some time I’ll have to get around to telling the story about how I kinda sorta accidentally stabbed him in the chin with a fork.

2.  I was once a line cook at an upscale French bistro.  FALSE

As much as I love to cook, I’ve never worked in a restaurant.  I’ve managed a professional retail bakery, where I also served as the head cake decorator, but nope – not a restaurant.  How come so many of you guessed this??

3.  I have gone bungee jumping.  TRUE.

I’ve written before about my experiences with internet dating and how I met a few nice men.  One of the nice men I dated was several years younger than me – and quite adventurous.  To this day I don’t know how the hell he talked me into bungee jumping, especially when you consider that I am terrified of heights, but he did.  I’d love to be able to say it was at some exotic location, like over a tropical waterfall, but alas – it was at an amusement park.

So there you have it…more insomnia-curing facts about me.

Have a lovely day, y’all.
